I am a creative and energetic interior designer looking for full time opportunities where I can use my creative energy and passion for design. For the past 5 months at Marguerite Rodgers, I have been involved in assisting senior designers through several design phases for an upscale private residence and a higher education facility. I have used my proficiency in AutoCAD and my ability to quickly pick up on new software packages to successfully draft furniture layouts, assist in construction documents, create client presentations and generate proposals and schedules for FFE selections. Furthermore, along with enhancing my creativity and technical knowledge of design, I gained significant interpersonal skills as I communicated across the board with vendors, senior designers and colleagues to consistently meet project requirements and deadlines.
Growing up in the Middle East, where Interior Design and Architecture has dramatically evolved over the last few decades, has also tremendously influenced my sense of design. I remember being moved by the use of color, texture and light in the vivid multicultural interiors and began to appreciate how a space evokes emotional memories. I have always enjoyed immersing myself in diverse environments and people during my global travels. My international exposure and natural ability to connect with others are my greatest strengths as a designer.
While at Drexel University, I wrote a research paper on the impact pervasive infiltration of technology has had on our relationships and the important role thoughtful space planning and design plays in striking a balance between the conveniences of technology and emotional satisfactions of social interactions. This inspired me to, as part of my masters’ thesis, conceptualize and design a technology-detox family retreat on the SS United States that made smart use of technology to encourage people to disconnect from their devices and connect directly with one another instead. Bringing this challenging project to life within a span of just 4 months through detailed concept design, 3D models, spatial layouts and material selections – I appreciated, and immensely enjoyed, the level of detail, discipline, and dedication that is needed from a designer in every single venture.
While being an energetic team player, I take ownership of my responsibilities and perform well individually. I am organized and detail-oriented by nature. I thrive best in a culture that is values-based, innovative, and encourages continual learning. I am willing to relocate.
