PROJECT NOTE:   The goal was to create a lighting design that accented the architecture without making any additional statement.  We selected stainless steel and aluminum fixtures that reflected the angular elements of the architectural design of the home.

All visible fixtures, with the exception of the dining room chandelier, were rectangular or square in design and flush mounted to the construction.   A rectangular aluminum plate was added to the mounting of the dining room chandelier to tie the fixtures together and integrate the individual fixtures into a cohesive design that matched the rest of the project.  Fluorescent lighting was incorporated to compete with daylight when additional illumination was required on cloudy days and during twilight.  In many cases the fluorescent lighting was incorporated into architectural coves creating indirect illumination.  Efficient quartz lighting was used to return warmth during the evening and nighttime hours.

Because the public spaces were visible at all times due to the open architecture a centralized dimming system with astronomical time clock was utilized to allow the home owner to control the entire area from a few key locations.  Individual controls were maintained in the private areas to allow for localized control of the non public spaces.  Many visitors to the project have stated that they didn’t notice the lighting even when they visited the home in the evening or at night.
