The US Department of Energy’s Race to ZERO design competition challenges students to strive for net zero energy performance at a residential scale. As part of Northeastern University’s team for Sustainable Housing (NESH) I redeveloped the traditional Boston triple-decker row home to deliver optimal comfort while also generating more energy than it consumes annually. It was also important to us to minimize the SmartHomE+ carbon footprint from material fabrication, to construction, to everyday operation.
