Weekend homes are becoming common for people from Mumbai. Alibag is one such location which is closer to South of Mumbai and is most preferred location for having a second home (which has the luxury of space).
As Alibag is just a ferry ride away from the Gateway of India,Mumbai, it is more of an extended home for the family. The house is 22,000 sq.ft. in area and is nestled well among a large 3 Acre contoured land which has a great view of the sea (from its terrace). The house is divided into 3 different zones which are the living / dining area, the family rooms/ bedrooms and the study / library / spa area. All of these spaces are intertwined with contoured gardens and connecting paths next to a 1000 sq.ft. swimming pool which binds all the people and there activities together.
All the primary living spaces are on two floor levels so that they are well connected visually. Rest of the spaces, like wine cellar, store room, etc (non functional rooms) are stationed below the library and billiards room (which is next to the swimming pool).
There is a private study which is a standalone space surrounded with garden on all 3 sides and also has a great view of the pool. This makes it one of the most used spaces in the house by the members of the family.
The complex of all these individual structures creates a maze of experience for the family and the young ones. The plot itself has so much more than just the built spaces as it have couple of very old rain trees and mango tress which are sure to grab the attention of the young ones to climb or the barbecue zone which is an ideal place for the family and friends to dine out. The plot is beautifully contoured and we took advantage of it by creating a meandering walking path all around it so as to make it quite an interesting experience in itself.
