Architecture and sustainability

Sustainable construction is no new phrase in the language of architecture. On the contrary, an energy-optimised building with an intelligent envelope and balanced building services is designed with the optimum use of construction materials; such designs are being applied more frequently in architectural projects. New materials create a new sense of aesthetics. 

About Dietrich Schwarz:

After completing his studies from ETHZ, Dietrich Schwarz started his architecture firm in 1991. His buildings have won the Swiss solar prize four times, the international DETAIL prize in 2007 and the Watt d’'Or of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy in 2009. In 2012 the Prix Lignum, Region East. 
In 2002, he started GlassX AG, the glass technology company, with an architecture department in Technopark, Zurich. From 2012 he continues to run the company as Dietrich Schwarz Architects AG, headquartered in Zurich-Seefeld. 
Since 2001, he has been teaching at several universities such as FH-Munich and the Architecture Academy in Mendrisio. 
In 2008, he was appointed as a full professor at the Liechtenstein University, where he heads the Masters course for Sustainable Design.
