Thesis Summary: The purpose of the study was to investigate options for the large Navy Broadway Complex site on the waterfront of San Diego’s downtown – the city’s last large-scale remaining waterfront parcel. This project explores options for a waterfront park and accompanying buildings, including, a city hall, city office tower, cultural center, two office towers, and a mid-rise live/work mixed-use residential complex of five buildings with a sixth low-rise restaurant building. Options for the site included the building types, building forms, water integration options, park options, connectivity, and integration into the overall San Diego City plan. The San Diego harbor front park is a large-scale design including multi-use open spaces, a native plant ‘learning trail’, marshland waterway, harbor front beach, playgrounds, and plazas.
