Carmen Guerrero and Allan Shulman, both long-time UMSoA faculty, have been elevated to new roles at the School. Guerrero will be the Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives and Facilities, while Shulman will take over as the Director of Graduate Architecture Programs. Rodolphe el-Khoury, Dean of UMSoA, announced the new appointments at the end of May.

"Carmen has lead our Rome program to new heights and pursued other international initiatives with equal dedication and efficacy," el-Khoury said. "She is perfectly poised to lead an array or strategic initiatives within the school, projects with university partners, as well as other ambitious international collaborations. With her expertise in interior architecture, she is also well equipped for tackling challenges and opportunities within our precinct on the Coral Gables campus, from supervising the completion of our new buildings to the much-needed renovation and adaptive reuse of our aging facilities."

Guerrero, who is also the director of UMSoA's Rome Program, is looking forward to the challenge. "I am thrilled to be part of the leadership of the School at a time of numerous opportunities for new academic initiatives and revaluation of our own facility’s architectural heritage," she said.

Dean el-Khoury had high praise for Shulman as well. "Allan Shulman is a critically acclaimed author and award-winning practitioner who brings excellence in scholarship and professional leadership in a powerful combination that is perfectly suited for directing our graduate programs, given the high standards expected in both academic and professional subjects," he said. "The creative spark which has earned him a reputation as one of the most talented architects in South Florida will surely be put to good use in moving forward with new curricular ambitions."

"I am enthusiastic about leading UMSOA's graduate programs in architecture," Shulman said. "I look forward to engaging our fascinating regional and international context, bringing together many strands of design investigation, and strengthening our relevance as a research center."

Both assumed their new roles on June 1, at the beginning of the University's new fiscal year.
