Robots Challenge Workshop: Workshop Synopsis

Workshop Director and main tutor: Dr.Aref Maksoud

The workshop focused its interest on  “Creative Process, contemporary Art-Architecture”  to show the students different creative Processes in a multidisciplinary artistic context in architecture, based on the New “making of” culture.

This workshop was an exploration of different ways of representing ideas through art concepts applied By an intensive search for spatial conditions in order to configure architectural spaces.

Challenged by the time of the workshop, real-life issues like project budget and teamwork and the advantage of using advanced parametric design strategies were tackled.

The workshop explored how a digital and technological view of design could be implemented in a real scale built product. The participants learned how to prepare their designs to be fabricated by using a laser cutter and related technologies and how the awareness of the fabrication process should affect their design process from the early beginning.

The goal has achieved through building a real scale installation inside the architectural faculty hall M8. The students were introduced to the use of laser cutting machines, implementing the tools and strategies they learned. They were able to build a real scale project from real materials(stereopore) . used more than 2275 bricks - with more than 65 working hours the installation was 20 square meters Height  3.50 M / Length 7.10 M line / 7.36 M curve.
