Archeworks, Chicago’s multidisciplinary design educator and incubator, announces two new public interest design initiatives in the coming year.  Designers enrolled in the 2014-15 Sustainable Urban Design certificate program will collaborate on two socially responsible design projects focused on healthy schools and environmental sustainability.

Green Neighborhood School Campus Design Initiative
Partnering with Chicago Public Schools, an Archeworks design team will develop concepts to transform the urban surroundings of two public schools into a shared green campus with recreational space that promotes health and wellness. This Archeworks design initiative will create a green campus that encourages a healthy lifestyle through physical activity, supports positive interaction among students, and provides opportunities to connect with nature.

Promoting Sustainable Energy Use through Innovative Design
An Archeworks design team will engage in a collaborative effort to promote sustainable energy use in Chicago communities as our region builds more efficient energy infrastructure. Working in collaboration with environmental and advocacy organizations, the design team will craft innovative campaigns and strategies that educate about individual energy consumption, create excitement about efficiency programs and tools, and encourage residents to adopt energy-conscious behaviors in their daily lives.
