EUGENE, Ore. – (November 13, 2012) – The University of Oregon’s architecture program was recently selected as the nation’s number one program for sustainable design education in the 2013 report of architecture schools. The top-ranked program has been recognized multiple times as leading sustainable design education.

The undergraduate architecture degree program is ranked overall at number 13 and in the top 6 of programs at public universities. There are 154 accredited architecture programs in the United States.

The Design Intelligence 2013 issue of America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools recently released the rankings of architecture, interiors, landscape architecture, and industrial design schools. The research ranks both undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of leading practitioners who complete surveys coupled with reviews from deans and heads of all programs.

“The School of Architecture and Allied Arts (A&AA)’s sustainability leadership comes from decades of innovation, integrated and excellent design, rigorous work, and many partnerships that continually push the boundaries of what the very notion of sustainability means,” said Frances Bronet, dean of A&AA. “Being sixth in North American public institutions is extraordinary,” continues Bronet. “This ranking reflects our deep commitment to rigorous and thoughtful design and the capacities of our incredible students.”

Other accredited UO programs secured prominent rankings as well. The Department of Landscape Architecture was ranked fourth place by landscape architecture deans as a most admired undergraduate program for its focus on sustainability and its broad spectrum of expert faculty.  The Interior Architecture Program remains in the top 10 programs and within the top four accredited graduate programs. It was also recognized as fifth by architecture deans for its collaborative curriculum and breadth of subject matter.

The University of Oregon has more than 750 students studying architecture, interior architecture, and landscape architecture in its Eugene and Portland locations.
