Through the initiative and support of Director Pat Scanlon, the GEORGE H. SCANLON FOUNDATION has generously funded an annual George H. Scanlon Foundation Lecture since 1998. The George H. Scanlon Foundation Lecture REDUX.6 celebrates this enduring and successful 21-year lecture series by featuring its 2006 lecturer, MATTHIAS SAUERBRUCH, who will present the work of Sauerbruch Hutton.

MATTHIAS SAUERBRUCH is an architect and founding partner of Sauerbruch Hutton. Further to his work as a practicing architect, he held professorships at Technische Universität Berlin and Stuttgart Akademie der Bildenden Künste and was a visiting professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design as well as at Universität der Künste Berlin. He is a founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council, a commissioner of the Munich Committee for Urban Design and part of the Executive Board of KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin. Matthias Sauerbruch is an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and Director of the Architecture Section of the Berlin Akademie der Künste.

Sauerbruch Hutton is an international agency for architecture, urbanism and design based in Berlin. Founded by Louisa Hutton and Matthias Sauerbruch in 1989, the practice has been awarded numerous national and international prizes and recognized for its long-term engagement with sustainability. Its integrated design approach aims for an architecture that combines ecological performance with intuition and sensuality. Among Sauerbruch Hutton’s best-known projects are the GSW Headquarters in Berlin, the Brandhorst Museum in Munich, the Federal Environmental Agency in Dessau and the recently opened M9 Museum of the 20th Century in Venice, all benchmarks for sustainable design.
