FSA: Tuition free architectural education launched in 2017.

As part of the Free School of Architecture's (FSA) ongoing 2017 public lecture series, Karl Landin and Åsa Bjerndell will lecture at the Free School of Architecture on the topic of equitable planning.

When: CANCELLED

Where: The Container Yard in the Los Angeles Arts District.

RSVP: SEATS ARE LIMITED: info@freeschoolofarchitecture.org

Malmo based architects and planners Åsa Bjerndell and Karl Landin of White Architects will lecture at the Free School of Architecture on planning cities equitably and focus on the potential of the already built environment. They will be presenting the "Kiruna 4-ever" project, a unique case of moving an entire city to save it and simultaneously plan for a 100 year perspective.

According to Landin and Bjerndell the "...total tragedy of the commons affects the role of cities as places to enrich and develop our individual and collective lives... As our nations, as well as news cycles, are manipulated by the likes of Donald Trump and the Islamic State, the need to build cities that are open and inclusive is stronger than ever. This need is further exacerbated by increasing global involuntary migration."

Bjerndell and Landin along with Emilia Thurin Melin will also lead a three day workshop at FSA, remotely accompanied by sustainability strategist Victoria Percovich Gutierrez.

"Sustainability," says Gutierrez, "has an important justice component that we do not often discuss. It's about where [money] is invested and how it affects the ability of citizens to take part of the city in different ways. If we honestly want the city to be more equitable, then more people need to be included in the development process, more perspectives must be added. This means that both financial resources and power must be distributed."
