The Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture Public Programs presents:

MATERIALITY
FALL 2022 - SPRING 2023

Events are free and open to the public, and eligible for AIA CEUs. All events take place in person and will be recorded for later viewing. More information can be found at: soa.cmu.edu/public-programs

FALL 2022: AESTHETICS
The fall series focuses on the aesthetic and poetic attributes of materiality in architecture. How do different environments evoke certain effects or sensations? Do they reinforce or challenge cultural norms? These conversations move beyond images of architecture to explore mass and matter.

SPRING 2023: EXTRACTIVISM
The spring series shines a light on the politics and geographies of the materials architects use. Where do they come from and how are they extracted? How do we negotiate the human and energy cost of their production? What roles might architecture play in reshaping material economies?
