Call for Participation/Submission - Radical Manifestations | 13th Atmosphere Symposium

Mon, Feb 8 '21  –  Fri, Feb 12 '21
Winnipeg, MB, CA

The 13th annual Atmosphere symposium at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba, invites practitioners, academics, scholars, and students to track and explore RADICAL MANIFESTATIONS.

Radical Manifestations | Practice and Pedagogy  Atmosphere 13| 2020-2021

Dates: February 8th ~ 12th, 2021 | ONLINE | http://atmos.ca

As we witness radical shifts in our daily routines and in our environment, Atmosphere 13 seeks to examine how such shifts can manifest in practice and pedagogy. What are the forms of manifestations of that radical shifts? What are the core/critical values and ideas embodied in those manifestations? How can we realign practice and/or pedagogy with such shifts? What are the forms of manifestations that reflect these realignments? How can the shifted practices reshape pedagogy? How can radical pedagogy affect forms of practice?

Papers & Posters  |
Atmosphere 13 invites papers and posters that track, explore, and discuss Radical Manifestations:  in practice and pedagogy of design, and within their relationship. The submission is open to students, professionals, scholars, and academics. Discussions are expected to be well-grounded and develop compelling arguments and insights that contribute to interdisciplinary knowledge. The discussion can cover forms of manifestations of the past, of the emergent present, or of projected conditions.

Short Videos  |  Atmosphere 13 invites short videos that frame Radical Manifestations. The videos can be a walk-thru, an overview, or a scripted manifesto. Based on the footages of existing or speculated projects, events, or environments, videos depicting and discussing the radical relationships between the designs and the values within our built/natural environments and cultures are invited. Video works produced for other contexts (academic or professional) can be submitted as long as it resonates with the topic and is not in any forms of conflict in copyright or authorship. Both casually produced videos, produced from mobile devices, as well as professionally produced ones, are welcomed. The submission is open to the public as well as students, professionals, scholars, and academics in the design disciplines.

PhD Forum  |  Atmosphere 13 invites PhD students in the design disciplines to share and discuss their ongoing research. All works conducted at PhD, whether practice-based or research-based, are understood as radical by nature, and their manifestations, as ‘shifts’, will contribute to realigning the practice and pedagogy. We invite current students to share the various subjects, perspectives, methods, and resources that are being used and tested, and to reflect on their potential contributions, through this forum. The intention of this forum is also to foster a greater collaborative and communicative research community in design.
