Dean’s Message
The role of technology in developing countries the globe over is more significant today than ever before. Ranging from infrastructure development to telecommunications, there is an ever increasing need for engineers and architects in today’s dynamic society. For a period of over three decades, the Faculty of Technology has been striving to meet society’s need for such professionals. Throughout this time, the Faculty has found itself at the vanguard of technological advancement while staying relevant to the needs of the society in which it exists.
In response to the changing needs of society, the Faculty that offered courses in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in 1969, has since grown to offer courses in Architecture, Land and Quantity Surveying, Land Economics, Telecommunications Engineering, Construction Management and most recently Computer Engineering. Driven by commitment to respond to society’s needs, there is little doubt that even more programmes shall be introduced in the future.
However, perhaps the most significant development at the Faculty is the progressive shift in the teaching paradigm. The shift is from the traditional classroom based instruction style to an experiential one. This focuses on closer interactions between the instructors and students coupled with increased involvement of undergraduates in ongoing research endeavors as well as field attachments. The increased interactions and hands on experience guarantees the delivery of industry- ready graduates. I welcome you to this great Faculty and assure you that you have chosen the right place to start your long career walk.
