Thetford Center, VT
Perched along a central Vermont mountainside by means of handcrafted stone walls and sculpted landforms, the Waistfield pool dramatically projects into the distant Green Mountain horizon. Core to SBLA’s fundamental beliefs, the forms, colors, and moods experienced from the encompassing landscape played an integral role in the planning and design of the pool and its adjacent features. The garden, with its native plant palette, is simple in form, soulful, and understated as stone weaves through it providing a connection to the client’s art studio and spaces for contemplation, sunbathing, and entertaining. A shade garden located off the west end of the Vermont Vernacular designed pool house consists of a grove of multi-stem Musclewood (Carpinus caroliniana) allowing for a sculptural relief from the sun.
Waitsfield Pool received the 2011 Merit Award from the Vermont Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
