Taubman Alumni Council Awards First Prize 2019
This project locates in South East Detroit, 3.2 miles from the downtown area, adjacent to Detroit River and across the Bell Isle State Park. The site is a linear, almost 1000 ft long and 180 ft wide; and there are two 4-stories, un-occupied residential buildings dated back in 1980s, and Whitter Hotel adjacent to its east. Several neighborhoods locate along the Jefferson Avenue, such as Indian Village, Jeffersonian Apartment. However, Two under-utilized parks surround the site and make this leaner site isolated.
The design tries to densify the site and meanwhile build connection between the site, the parks, the water front and the city. Situated within the revitalization of city Detroit, another substantial design challenge is to vitalize the site and build a feasible and vivid residents profile and design based on their daily living scenes.
