My undergraduate thesis offers an alternative urbanism which transcends the dialectic of 'bottom-up' vs. 'top-down' planning. In an era of 'distributed urbanism', cities no longer abide by such reductive modes of analysis. Both approaches to urbanism have effectively failed in the development of the contemporary city. Rather, this investigation asks whether systems can accommodate change while maintaining structural resilience. Furthermore, what socio-economic implications attend such agency in the built environment as integrated into an airport program--the prototypical 'non-place'?
