The role consisted of managing the design of the Design-n-Build projects, where all the interdisciplinary teams and other building trade professionals collaborate in an agile management process, where design strategy and construction expertise are seamlessly integrated.

Here my functional aspect was advocating more as an owner, project-steward and a team-leader, to ensure high fidelity between project aims and outcomes. Being a highly motivated, proactive and a professional engineer, I used my organizational skills to bring together my team of architects, structural engineers and services engineers, along with specialist designers, with the aim of producing a coordinated design.

To perform the above role, we shared some varying degrees of responsibilities. Some of the responsibilities were as per following:

o To manage the design team;
o To manage the design process using commercial, contractual, program/time awareness and technical expertise;
o To support, understand and advise the client as to the requirements and his/her obligations in the development of a building design;
o To continuously encourage and inspire the team for producing their best work using their full flair, experience, resources and talents in a cost effective way;
o Using IT in design and project management, specifically using software packages such as ArchiCAD/ REVIT, 3DMax & other tools for the presentation and approval of the designs.
o To Ensure the design process recognizes current building codes, zoning laws, fire regulations, standards and codes of practice, where appropriate;
o To Ensure the design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timescales;
o In the whole process, we strive to eliminate health and safety risks in the design and financial risks during construction.

Managed a wide range of residential & commercial projects from Inception (Concept Design/ Design Development) thru award of the Main Works package. During the project life-cycle, stakeholders were identified & scope defined. Attended regular meetings with the stakeholders, made presentations & verified approved changes to the scope. Interacted and coordinated with architectural and engineering disciplines (sub-consultants). Worked on solutions to make the project cost effective, sustainable and energy efficient. Identified areas with high level of uncertainty. Managed design development/ project team & their performance. Prepared & distributed status report during each phase. Monitored project performance; analyzed changes in the project schedule. Performed quality control. Liaison with regulatory authorities and obtaining Building Permits. Reviewing Specifications, Codes, Tender and Contract documents. Ensured timely delivery of project documents. Assisted owners with the contractor selection and assisted in bidding process. Seeking financial advice on any unpaid/ unclaimed dues before closing of the project.
