Tri-Fold

The Tri-fold was designed as a manufacturing industry structure and offices in the İvedik region located on the North perimeter of Ankara. It has been seen that the region, which started as a small industrial plant in the 1980s -which has a rapidly expanding area to have the Organized Industrial zone - has received a serious burden in terms of the small industry with the increasing number of enterprises operating and producing in recent years. The new employment, macro-scale production center goal, and the zoning plans of the region, which focus on different production needs, also include the conditions of built environment for different functions. Especially, in recent years, the buildings that meet the needs of the district office in the direction of Melih Gökçek Boulevard can be considered as one of the most apparent transformations. The Tri-fold industrial structure was designed on this axis under the conditions of the hilly area, which is limited to 9.5m height.

The Tri-fold industrial structure was designed as a holistic structure that works like a "studio model" with an alternative approach to the needs of manufacturing and customary trading units in the region. The Tri-fold structure is proposed as an alternative model that patterns ordinary production activities but leaves behind the daily life order imposed with production, and triggers spending time in the building. For this reason, the language of the building is proposed at a certain level of consistency and completeness, with the goal that the building can be rented as a whole and can continue its business activities. Tri-fold, which does not have an integrated effect with the outer shell that it only offers, proposes an open and flexible infrastructure model by opening interior space to multiple production units. The building consists of open plan production units and duplex office spaces in general. The structure, in which the roof and the walls are melted and intertwined and the relation of the interior with the outer wall is fully independent, was designed as a steel-backed aluminum façade system covering the reinforced concrete system. The folded outer shell in triangular form, which emphasizes this system, fully separates the Tri-fold from the structures around it. The inner structure can be shaped according to the climate conditions, the daylight and the production activities in the interior, thanks to the proposed moving shell, outside the building, which shows itself in an outward tone of expression of the production scheme and the way of life blended with it. While the Tri-fold can be a completely self-exposing structure in its surrounding, on the other hand, it can create a different language by closing the entire shell.
