Submitted for the AIA competition in 2014- This design is the retrofitting of an existing building near downtown LA. The project calls for the creative and practical to come together, and is conglomerate of artists lofts and studios with urban farming. Creative spaces are shared one the ground level to promote cross inspiration between artists. The Lofts are private, and there form is based on the practicality of growing food, conserving water, and creating natural air flow through the space. Vents from the lower units draw cool air from the existing concrete building and divert it though the units. The walls surrounding the units are filled with soil to grow food, and also work to insulate the spaces. This Green Idea was Meant to cancel out some of the CO2 emissions caused by trucking food from the Hartland of America.
