A young family of four loved the location of their apartment, close to work and school, but a new, more efficient plan was needed to fit all their growing needs within the existing 1200SF footprint. The living and kitchen benefits from large windows overlooking the street, which bring in lots of natural light. The existing vaulted ceilings were exposed here also, highlighted with subtle linear uplighting, which helps the small space feel more open. A built in bench below the windows provides lots of storage for toys, and a built-in sofa on one end was designed to utilize space as efficiently as possible. The custom dining table pulls out of the island, so it can be put away when not in use for extra floor space.
At the entry, white oak panels wrap the walls and ceiling; while a white oak bench is a place to take off and store shoes. The white oak paneling extends down the bedroom hall. The two kids bedrooms feature built-in loft beds with desks and bookshelves below. A small pocket door provides a secret connection between the kids’ beds. In the master suite, built in wardrobes are used in lieu of a walk-in closet. The master bath is compact, but light and bright with all white surfaces. Textured tile in the shower and gold plumbing fixtures - a special request by the owner - add interest to the all white space.
