Our Numisius Colony was contacted by the Executive Director for Art San Diego (ArtSD) to design and fabricate a pavilion for the center lounge. She contacted NSA+D looking
for a group of students to collaborate with Noble Environmental Technologies (ECOR) in the design of this lounge. We broke into teams and had an in-house design competition. Taking into
consideration the theme of the art fair--[collide] or creative intersections--and the various programmatic needs of the space, our designs centered on versatility, modularity, dynamism and
complexity through materials and placement. The concept of a field of objects to define a space--like stars and solar systems composing a galaxy, or electrons orbiting a nucleus to define
an atom--rather than borders or walls to define the space was the creative jumping off point. A winning design was chosen and presented to our client. The selected design features a modular
bench that can be arrayed and configured multiple ways to suit the ever changing needs of the space. This module can be arrayed finitely to create a seating or a lantern object; together to
create an infinite configuration of a barrier object; or singularly to create stand-alone seating elements. Each module will be back lit, creating a glowing structure. By incorporating the
seating elements designed by ECOR into this field of objects, a collision is achieved.
