The City of Viroqua continues to invest in its town center and the rehab of its Western Technical College (WTC) will be instrumental to enhancing the downtown location.
The WTC space involves the conversion of what was once an old and dark grocery store, to a natural light-filled student and faculty focused environment. Large expanses of glass will be used within the cuts of the massing along its edges to allow natural light to enter. WTC will be connected to the new Viroqua Public Library which will provide an opportunity to create a unifying space between the two, giving the Library and the College a common social entrance from Rock Street and Main Street.
The conceived design is respectful of its geographic location and the intended use of the various spaces throughout the facility, many of which will be computer filled. We envision creating a rhythm of light by strategically positioning glass and light boxes, as well as the location of the sculpted courtyards. We’re also looking to break the scale of its western edge to be more in line with
the Main Street streetscape, and allow for exterior social spaces and green areas in and around the facility.
