Neubau eines Museums mit Freianlagen und Stellplätzen / Bauhaus Museum Dessau

Bauhaus Dessau Foundation / GERMANY

What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad day light, Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at beauty's glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.

Leisure by W. H. Davies from from Songs Of Joy and Others (1911)

- central traffic lane through the park from the friedrichstrase serviced by car park to the north with a direct

bus drop off and delivery zone under the museum with a taxi bays and a bicycle parking at the kavalierstrase

- the museum access from both sides

- the museum is lifted of the ground to omit the street noise, to create covered area and to keep the pedestrian traffic from the ratsgasse directly to the park and vice versa

- the entrance foyer is dressed via a spiral ramp which leads to the exhibition rooms and a park side gallery on the floor above

- the entertainment and workshop facilities are located on the top floor offering a union of joy and work

technologies in mind

- electrochromic glass

glazed surfaces are turned transparent or opaque with electrical stimulation hence no blinds or curtains;

can selectively reflect infrared light, which is responsible for much indoor overheating, leading to cooler interiors and lower use of air conditioning

- prismatic glass

the configuration of the transparent surfaces are composed of small pyramids providing an ambient light to the inside, intended to refract light, like in a prism breaking light up into its constituent spectral colours resulting in a spectrum -  will create an effect similar to a rainbow; this effect can be repeated during night times using an artificial light sources to the outside

- biomimicry coating

taking inspiration from the natural world, where the lotus effect is used to create self-cleaning surfaces,

a drop of water on a lotus leaf stands proud and spherical, as the microscopic surface contours do not allow the drop to spread out; rainwater just rolls off, taking dirt with it

- twaron & tenax fibers

seamless single surface facade supported on semi-moncoque structure in satin finish is created by a sandwich construction consisting of an inner skin and outer skin of a composite laminate of resin, strengthened by twaron & tenax fibers; due to their negative longitudinal thermal expansion coefficient behave oppositely resulting with minimal thermal expansion
