About

Note:  Can relocate anywhere in the world or in the USA on short notice for the right opportunity!

Dear Sir or Ms.-

I am a USA licensed Architect who has acted as Principal Architect and Owner’s Rep and for numerous large-scale mixed-use developments in the USA and abroad and taught management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I have spent the last 9 years in Beijing working on design, architecture, and urban planning of mixed-use projects. I have enjoyed great success working for employers in the USA and China I have exceptional management skills, managing international teams as well as extensive experience as a real estate developer and contractor.  My degrees in Architecture are from M.I.T. and U. C. Berkeley and I have taught at both institutions.  I also have a “mini” Master of Real Estate Development degree.

I live for professional daily challenges and to learn new things.  I also love teaching, mentoring, and negotiating. My teaching includes post graduate professional classes at U.C. Berkeley extension and being a guest critic at numerous schools of architecture. In the area of negotiations, I have negotiated successfully with government agencies (both for and against), trade unions, clients, and tough construction general and sub-contractors.  When the contractors for a difficult construction project for which I was the client rep stopped construction because the project was too complex, I formed a construction company for the developer in 3 weeks.  I then acted as Architect, General contractor, and Owner’s rep on the project, made up the lost time, and finished the project on time and on budget. If you invite me for an interview, I can tell you how.

Despite my diverse professional roles and public activities, I have always been involved in design and been considered someone with extremely developed design and planning talent. My original background was in drawing and painting and my mother was an accomplished portrait painter in New York, where I grew up.

I am a very international M.I.T. guy. My incredible intuition for numbers has helped me be a superb manager, contract negotiator, and expert in maximizing profitability.  I always attempt to perform my job to perfection, within constraints, and select and train the project team (or subcontractors) to do the same. I am highly experienced in doing architecture fee proposals, estimates, and contracts, and then overseeing the teams to meet or exceed those requirements

I have an outwardly friendly and humorous manner that puts people at their ease and helps me obtain top performance from diverse teammates and lead successful negotiations. I am way past the point in life where fame or corporate promotion have any value to me.  I just want to do a great job, make my bosses look good, work with quality people on quality projects, have an adequate income, and bring profit to my employer in many multiples of my salary.
