Práctica Arquitectura is an architectural design firm founded in 2017 by David Martínez in the city of Monterrey, Mexico. Within the office, architecture is understood as a craft, a plural reflection attentive to history and emotions.
Seeking to involve the worlds of theoretical/historical rigor with the weight that a space has translated into memory, Práctica Arquitectura wants to reach a dialogue where pre-existences, constructive tradition and the making of places/spaces are discussed.
The interest in history is a key principle in its work, understanding and reinterpreting it brings them closer to rigor over technique and the abstraction of learned ideas to broaden the understanding of the problem. In this way the firm is understood as an extension of the classroom, here most of the architects working are David's former students, understanding Practica Arquitectura as a school and not as a traditional office. With a spirit of learning, the practice unfolds in processes with critical thinking to work on architectural events that complement the site.
Práctica Arquitectura has won competitions such as the Jardín Ciudadano in Monterrey (2017) and the design of the Centro de Diseño Universitario de la UNACH in Chiapas. It has also received the Silver Medal at the Biennial of Young Architects in 2019, Honorable Mention at the Pan-American Architecture Biennial in Quito 2018 and has been a finalist in national competitions such as the Papalote Iztapalapa Museum and the ECO Pavilion 2018.
For the whole team it is important to understand the identity as Mexicans as a result of the combination of experiences, places, customs, traditions and history that a country like Mexico produces.
They currently have residential, cultural and urban projects in progress, of different scales and in different states of Mexico.
