Singapore City, SG
Singapore-based Eco Architect, Urban Planner and Academic Jason Pomeroy is presenting a brand-new 12-part architecture travel series for Channel NewAsia, called ‘City Time Traveller’. His travels across Asia will uncover stories behind some of the most interesting cities, places, buildings and their people. Insightful and informative, "City Time Traveller" seeks to connect history, culture and everyday life though architecture.
Speaking about the show Pomeroy said, “City Time Traveller” aims to stimulate the public’s curiosity in the evolution of cities over time - examining individuals and communities who have helped shaped the lives of people through the places created”.
Pomeroy will lead the viewer on a tour of Asia’s most historic, provocative and emotive architectural structures, that span time, ranging from the 7th century ancient city of Varanasi, through to the 21st century city of Tokyo; and from the majestic Palaces of Hue, to the magical ruins of Ayutthaya. It will also cover the environmental principles embodied in many of these historical buildings to provide an insight as to how people once lived before the advent of technology.
“Some of the most sustainable environments have stood the test of time, and have allowed people today to enjoy the places and buildings of the past. I want to take people on a journey through the great Asia cities - old and new – and travel through time to experience the cities, its people, places and buildings: past, present and future.”
In Episode 1, Pomeroy begins his journey in Singapore. He explores the transformation of a humble fishing village, to colonial trading port, to global financial institution; where the British left a legacy of fine buildings, some of which have been reused or converted. Despite their adaptation to modern times, they survive as urban artefacts of nostalgia that tell tales of a city in yesteryear. Each episode reveals a different city within one of the 6-featured countries that include Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, India, China, and Japan.
