International Architectural Competition “Domy Na Míru”, Czech Republic

1st Prize

The competition was a joint project of  Dům a zahrada magazine, portal Dumazahrada.cz and construction company HAAS Fertigbau Chanovice, a renowned manufacturer of certified wooden buildings. The slogan of the event could be informally translated as a “custom made houses”.

The aim of the competition was to find a truly ideal family house answering current demands for housing, satisfying the most strict technical specifications and designed with high architectural and aesthetic level.

Project Description :

The proposal uses modern means of expression to create an acceptable architectural form of detached family house respecting required efficiency, practicality and flexibility of the solution.

The effort led to the creation of an archetypical form of the house in the contemporary version. We tried to create a comfortable design meeting high aesthetic requirements.
The house has also a possibility of various additions – for example terrace, workshops, garages or carport, according to the individual client's decision and specifications of a particular property.

The compact form of the layout and simple shaping of the house ensure economic operating costs, versatility and modifiability of the concept with regard to the conditions of different localities, cardinal orientation and specifics of the various regions of the Czech Republic. The complete design flexibility was not presented in the competition, but the house has its potential to create an entire collection of related, yet unique houses.

The building also has its own individual characteristic and easily recognizable element of "observation window" that allows future residents identify with their new home.
