...Thinking about my Bryant Park Project! and trying to understand the geometries I used and why! I see it more like a tessellation! a 3d tessellation with irregular polygons! I was inspired by the site being ideally located between east and west of midtown Manhattan! Hyper-connected! I envisioned points reflecting transportation nodes and key places of businesses! connections are constantly occurring between these points! the 3d tessellated tissue connecting the sound studios is formed by connecting dots that define the void created to overlook Bryant Park… wondering about that pool graffiti on the floor! my idea is for a graffiti artist to define that void as a 3d pool/fountain! space will remain unoccupied...reflecting simultaneously a past time when Bryant park was a reservoir and a present time where the fountain in Bryant park acts as a meeting place! did you know? “The first park at this site opened in 1847 as Reservoir Square.[3] It was named after its neighbor, the Croton Distributing Reservoir. In 1853, the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations with the New York Crystal Palace, featuring thousands of exhibitors, took place in the park.[2] The square was used for military drills during the American Civil War, and was the site of some of the New York City draft riots of July 1863, when the Colored Orphan Asylum at Fifth Avenue and 43rd Street was burned down.[2] The Crystal Palace, also known as the Great Exhibition Hall, burned down in 1858.[4] In 1884, Reservoir Square was renamed Bryant Park, to honor the New York Evening Post editor and abolitionist William Cullen Bryant. In 1899, the Reservoir structure was removed and construction of the New York Public Library building began. Terrace gardens, public facilities, and kiosks were added to the park.”
