THis project was designed during my time in Berlin on my study abroad. It is perhaps the only design I have done without the use of a 3d model during the conceptual stages. This project was developed in a much more technical manner than previous projects and through consistent comparisons between section and plan became one of my favorite projects while attending University.
The 3d model is now a work in progress as my ability to model and render has increased 10 fold in the past year.
This project began in conjunction with two classmates as an overall site scheme dealing with varying levels of porosity. The building I chose to develop was that which would have the most minimal impact at ground level and essentially strive to become a "non" building. The majority of programmatic public spaces where pushed below ground with 2 major centralized courtyards to aide in bringing natural light into the lower levels. Additional methods were introduced through skylights with a custom shading mechanism to allow natural lighting to be adapted for theater use. The more privatized spaces such as offices and conference rooms were elevated to the first floor (Second Floor in most European countries) to leave only 3 piers touching the ground plane. This created a strong development of bridge like structure which would be carried throughout at various scales.
