While studying abroad the summer in Switzerland and southern Europe, the project entailed redesigning a small port on the French Riviera. Requirements included maintaining all three existing concrete buildings and redesigning them for the purpose of an art gallery and use of temporary artist' residence.
Working in a group of one graphic designer and three of us architecture students, we drew upon the rocky coast and fluidity of the port to dictate the language of the design. The program includes a sculpture garden with lightwells that animate the below parking garage, gallery spaces with ambient lighting, a workshop for young artists to learn from established artists, a cafe, and room for two artists' residences with personal and collaborative studio workspaces.
Project completed in three weeks.
