Wrapping Bark

The design approach of the lamp is inspired by taking multiple cross-sections of a tree in plan and translating it in elevation; by doing this the patterns the inner rings produce gets projected in space and create a 3-dimensional form.  The finished product is created from milled walnut wood and accented with a brass. Before reaching its final form 2-dimensional studies were created to grasp a better understanding of movement and how it reacts in space. After the foundation for the 2-dimensional pattern was established, it is time to begin creating a three dimensional framework for each cut contour. This procedure was first investigated digitally and then mimicked physically to manifest an elegant product that lights up a space.
