The Urban Winery is situated in Houston's midtown area at the threshold between the dense urban fabric of downtown Houston and the suburban neighborhoods south of downtown. Using a four bar logic, the winery breaks up different functions of the winery - administration, exhibition, production, and leisure - into different zones along a public-to-private spectrum. The public end of the winery to the north is surrounded by restaurants and shops and hosts the wine bar and tasting rooms. The private entrance is to the south and faces the breaking point between midtown and a series of neighborhoods. This end of the winery houses administration. Production and exhibition zones are sandwiched between these two ends of the building.
