The Century Building is located in downtown Knoxville on Gay Street. The 30,000+ square foot building presents a design challenge: an 18 inch load bearing brick wall that runs through the center of the building. The goal of the project is to create an atrium space without moving the wall. My solution is a central atrium with a green wall, providing light for the core of the building while improving indoor air quality.
The client is Ecobeauty Advertising, an advertising and consultation company working with womens health and beauty companies to implement sustainable advertising, marketing, and packaging initiatives. The students selected their own client and developed a specific program. The initial phase of the project was supporting construction documents, detailing one floor of the building with a reflected ceiling plan, power and communication plan, and a partition plan.
