TORRE SAN NICOLO

Torre San Nicolò is an old historic tower located along the Arno River in Florence, Italy. The design and mission became to provide temporary housing for visiting artists while using contemporary artwork to restore a historic pathway.

The program contains minimal living needs. The two existing floors with in the tower became the studio space as well as main living area, with added bathroom and a small kitchen. The only change to the tower were 6 small bedrooms, which are hung outside the tower from the 6 existing windows located on the towers east facade. The changes made to the tower are minimal and reversible, in order to keep the tower fully intact. The art work produced by the visiting contemporary artists will then be put on display on the ground level under the tower’s archway, renewing a historic path for the city to enjoy.
