The Lentine Family Wine Cellar is a basement suite in a single family residence. The requirements included a climate controlled storage room, a seating area for 3-4 individuals with access to the dining room above and the grand staircase to the east.
As a retro fit design, the arrangement of spaces, location of existing infrastructure, as well as, other vertical and horizontal clearances posed unique challenges that were successfully met.
The end result of the design included an Anteroom, Wine Storage Room, Parlor, an Entrance Hallway, Storage Room and Mechanical room. All wine cellar rooms are specified to receive travertine flooring and heavy plaster barrel vault ceilings, except the Parlor which was designed with a groin vault.
The Parlor's groin vault arms are finished in cherry and rest on cherry pilasters, matching the existing millwork in the residence. The groin vault webs are finished in heavy plaster similar to the entire cellar. The parlor walls, as well as the climate controlled wine storage room, are finished in a cultured stone veneer.
The Anteroom is specified to receive the same travertine wall finish in the dining room directly above the wine cellar which is accessed by the spiral stair. Utilizing the same wall finish in the wine cellar as in the dining room creates a visual effect that makes the wine cellar an extension of the dining room. The Entrance Hallway walls are finished in heavy plaster to match the walls for a more intimate feel.
