In a nod to Rayner Banham and Southern California’s most (in)famous ecology, my proposal for a new school of architecture explores the urban landscape of transportation infrastructure as both a formal and organizational strategy. The interdisciplinary nature of architecture is critical to my design. The existing site is located between interrelated programs of study, and the language of highway interchanges is used to connect these virtual axes. While the form was optimized to a double-loop, an “unrolling” of the building into sequential sectional views illustrates how characteristics of transportation networks address specific programmatic needs.
