Bronxification is the intensification of the progressive roles of the Bronx’s physical assets as we have defined them in the Bronx River and the Cross Bronx Expressway. Current unhealthy and inappropriate juxtapositions of program adjacent to these infrastructural assets to the neighborhood are exacerbating the negative impacts the Bronx is experiencing through high rates of obesity, diabetes, unemployment and food stamp usage. We argue that the flipping of these inappropriate juxtapositions, transplanting the concentration of auto-dependent industry from adjacent to the river to adjacent to the highway, and thus residential neighborhoods from the highway to the river, will create a more productive industrial space, a healthier ecological space, and an overall more resilient place to live.
