Neutral Ground is a name given by the residents of the Lower 9th Ward to the Claiborne Ave. median. This site is considered neutral because it exists within the thickness of a major dividing line between two sections of the neighborhood, making it a place that belongs to everyone and to no one. Neutral Ground adds value to this leftover space by reflecting the memory and cultural attitudes of its place, appropriating unclaimed space for a memorial network of personal reflection and social interaction.
