Kursk 2032

The project was selected to participate in the 2nd round of the Open Architectural Competition "Kursk 2032" to create a concept for the restoration of the historical and cultural appearance of the central part of the city of Kursk.

Understanding, symbolizing the landscape, restoring its architectural and town-planning integrity in subordination to existing cultural heritage sites, based on historical research and modern approaches in creating a comfortable urban environment is the basis and frame for the transformation of the territory of the center of Kursk. The complex, majestic layering of epochs, stages of town planning development becomes visible, through the tactful designation of objects and structures that have not reached our time. Minimizing the traces of architectural and town-planning errors of the Soviet period, related to the territory without due respect for its uniqueness. This approach allows you to create an intense, exciting and at the same time cozy place with your own image that corresponds to the spirit of Kursk and is an organic continuation of the traditional urban structure that meets the modern requirements of comfort of the urban environment.

Palimpsest - designation by various means of design, improvement of traces of various lost objects and structures, for a person to experience the scale of change, to fully reveal the potential of cultural heritage, as well as the presence of history and the unique spirit of the place.

In the composition, spatial solution and architectural and artistic details, the semantic content of several historical strata is collapsed, which unfolds in the process of cognition of this space.

The approach is applicable only to the historical core of Kursk and is impossible in the late modern buildings that do not have the same identity, complexity and multi-layering.
