World Trade Center VOEC - Trident Artifacts

2007 - 2010

Design Architect:  Snohetta
Record Architect:  Adamson Associates

Structural Engineer:
Nathaniel M. Stanton SE AIA - Structural Engineer for the WTC VOEC Tridents Artifacts connections and support structure while working as the Group Leader of the Special Projects Group at Buro Happold in New York.

Design:
The Trident artifacts are each assembled from two individual pieces of the original World Trade Center exo-skeletal structure.  The pieces were chosen specifically for this location from the artifacts recovered from the site in 2001.  The pieces where then laser scanned and modeled for proper orientation and analysis.  Details were developed for the base condition, the mid height splice and the lateral restraint at the top of the Tridents.  The base and mid-height splice details were developed as internal sleeves that allowed for the cut ends of the artifact pieces to be unobstructed visually.  The lateral restraint at the top was designed to be clean, simple and reverent to the artifacts.
