Study Abroad - Summer 2006
Munich’s first Botanical Garden (Alter Botanischer Garten) sits in the heart of the downtown business district. The park boasts an international electricity exhibition in 1882 when the world's first high-tension electrical cable transmission was run from the park to a Bavarian village 48 km (30 mi) away. It was in this electrical transmission that the inspiration for my design was found.
The design concept maintains the historical framework of the original park while introducing a modern amenity reminiscent of the historic transmission. There are “hot spots” spread throughout the park and are connected by a series of overhead cables and lights that act as visual queues for the person looking to do some work outside of the the office.
This project was done alone and I hand-drafted and sketched with colored pencil and ink.
