My graduate thesis is an exploration and search for solutions to housing issues in Los Angeles, focusing on preservation of existing resources as well as a change in paradigm regarding current housing policies. Using as found philosophy first coined by Alison and Peter Smithson as well as Robert Rauschenberg, abstract expressionist, as guides, I proposed a solution to an actual housing dilemma on San Juan St. in the Leo Hotel, which was scheduled to be demolished for new construction. I proposed to keep the original structure and create around what existed, feeling that this solution would be more valuble than either by themselves.
