Avid Bluprint Philippine National Pavilion Competition

We got it all for you.

The sights, the sounds, the feeling.

What we aim to show is a modern interpretation of our treasured attractions that invoke different feelings-- of pride, adventure and progression. By treasured attractions we do not only mean traditional aspects, like natural formations and man-made structures. In the bigger schema of things, it is our people that make this place unrivaled. Hence, we would like to showcase the Filipino psyche - fun loving, talented and with great capacity to withstand hardships and improvise.

The design concept is based on the whale shark, a magnificent creature locally called “Butanding”.

The use of the creature’s aesthetic qualities of size, color and texture connotes the Filipinos’ larger than life persona, of being able to present themselves with honor and dignity among themselves and others in whatever circumstances. Materials used in the design include structural steel stilts, and the ETFE skin to compliment the transparency of the pavilion.
The main spaces include dining pods at th eloper levels, multi-level exhibition halls platforms and performances spaces.

The whale shark also represents an active community effort to wildlife protection and awareness. An image of a giant structure in an urban landscape will not only be inviting to look at—it also engages the public with local imagery and discourse.
