The artist/work live project is a community for artist to be able to work and live in the same place. The program called for (24) 1,000 sf units and (8) 1,200 sf units. Also included was an artist gallery, retail, lobby, and storage spaces. The concept of the Artist Work/Live housing was first conceived by the relationship to the site. The site was divided up into zones by indoor and outdoor activities. This zoning response to the site allowed a similar layout for the new development. Each area of the building is seperated by a courtyard in between. This allows all units to have a view of nature. The artist lofts were designed to achieve the most natural light available. The work area of the lofts are a double height space which allows for tall glazing maximizing natural light. The structure of the building is double wall precast panels with hollow core slabs. The panels were designed on a 10’ module with only 4-5 different pannels used to maximize efficiency in construction and manufacturing.
