At the urban scale the project
aims to establish a monumental gateway
from the Coliseum toward the Esquiline
Hill. This is achieved formally
by creating an arch between two legs
at the base of the tower. At mid-height
the tower acts as a theater to direct
views toward the Coliseum and finally
at the highest level of the skybar the
spectacle becomes the entire city of
Rome. Despite modern luxuries the
project remains decidedly Roman in
the functioning of spaces and method
of construction. Six massive twisting
concrete pillars comprise the structure
and contrast with an elegant façade of
steel cables and glass.
