Thirteen undergraduate architecture students. Six landscape architecture students. Two graduate architecture students. One interior design student. Together, these individuals made up the 2011 Design/Build studio, and with the careful supervision, advice, and guidance of Bruce Bassler, the semester goal was to design and deliver a complete cabin to the Scenic Park campground in South Sioux City, Nebraska. After three weeks of intensive full-class design, studio representatives traveled to South Sioux City and presented a condensed conceptual design to members of the City Council, the City Manager, and other members of the community in a bid to secure funding for the semester. Three months, $30,000, and countless hours of labor later, the studio held a final presentation on site in the completed cabin.
