CONTENTION: This thesis argues that architecture must be more than just the physical creation of space and become involved in the design of policies and sustainable systems, which can support local food systems, helping to restore the environment rather than destroy it. The re-design of the food system [policies, systems, programs] will inform how our built environment is created, accessed, and understood.
PROPOSAL: Through the re-use of the rail system, a re-zoning of Syracuse, and the introduction of food hubs through the county a local food system can exist. This thesis proposal is a phased plan which engages in 4 scales: the county, the city, the site, and program.
