Sierra Leone School of Architecture

The concept inspired for this piece stemmed from the cloth and tapestries of the Mende tribe. The Mende tribe of Sierra Leone produce cloth known as kpokpo, that is used for special occasions signifying wealth and social position.  The process of producing kpokpo involves spinning of cotton, performed typically by women, which is then given to the men to weave and stitch together.  Conceptual patterns inspired by the cloth were transformed architecturally into various window openings and or exterior concrete panels.
